Each month we have been sharing our book of the month with you. For January, we are introducing a DVD series covering the Core Components of DBT DVD Series Volumes 1, 2 and 3.
Core Components of DBT DVD Series Volume I: Conducting a Comprehensive Behavioural and Solution Analysis
This first in the series DVD is presented by Dr Michaela Swales and Christine Dunkley, each DVD focuses on a different aspect of DBT, sharing role plays presenting the relevant scenario. Therapists can watch watch these training DVD’s with or without the ‘strategy highlight’ subtitle feature turned on. Each DVD also comes with an free study guide, containing a full transcript of the role-plays, alongside DBT strategies listed and aspects of the therapist’s conceptualisation highlighted.
Core Components of DBT DVD Volume II – Pre Treatment
DBT has a distinct pre-treatment phase, usually lasting between 3-4, or occasionally up to 6, sessions. There are 4 distinct tasks of this phase of treatment. The first area is to identify the client’s goals. The second area is to link these to the goals of the treatment. Then, the therapist comprehensively orients the client to the treatment. To finish, the therapist obtains commitment from the client to take part in all modalities of the treatment. All three role-plays on this DVD demonstrate aspects of this process.
Core Components of DBT DVD Series Volume III: Implementing the Suicide Crisis Protocol
On the final of the three DVD’s, Christine Dunkley and Michaela Swales demonstrate the application of the Suicide Crisis Protocol in DBT. The Suicide Crisis Protocol represents one of the most unique, and potentially highly effective components of the treatment. Developed by Marsha Linehan and based on her extensive knowledge of intervention with suicidal behaviours, this DVD provides therapists with confidence that they are intervening in a systematic manner within these high risk behaviours.
